PPV Training System
Tempest created one of the first PPV training programs
and still one of the best. The Tempest PPV training
system is an integrated curriculum designed and written
by Dr. Timothy Brady, of California State University,
and based on the experience and knowledge of more than
20 industry professionals. It includes an orientation
manual by John Mittendorf, Battalion Chief (Ret.) of
the Los Angeles Fire Department and other industry professionals,
an instructors manual for basic and advanced PPV applications,
six videos on DVD, student workbooks, instructional
overhead transparencies and presentation images on CD.
Instructor’s Manual
The core of the training program is the easy-to-use
instructor’s manual. Section 1 deals with basic
PPV applications while Section 2 addresses advanced
PPV techniques, including High-rise, HazMat and Aircraft
incidents. Each includes step-by-step instructions for
both the trainer and class.
Six Student Workbooks
Each training package comes complete with basic and
advanced student workbooks, which are coordinated with
the instructor’s guide. Three copies of each workbook
are included.
These workbooks outline various course objectives and
provide students with specific guidelines and procedures
regarding PPV. Self-testing materials also appear as
part of each unit review.
55 Color Slides/Overheads
As a teaching aid, the training program includes 55
color slides and transparencies which correspond to
the instructor’s guide.
Orientation Manual
Written by John Mittendorf, Battalion Chief Los Angeles
Fire Department, and other industry professionals, the
Tempest PPV training program includes an orientation
manual designed to present an overview to individuals
as a PPV introduction.
